About the Role This is a newly created Managing Director role, reporting directly to the Founder, built for a leader who understands what makes live events excellent and what it takes to run a thriving business behind them. The company has the brand, the talent, and the creative DNA. What it needs now is someone to set the long-term strategic direction, build the revenue and operational discipline to match its ambitions, and protect the culture that has made it special. This role carries ultimate accountability for business performance while serving as the Founder’s closest strategic partner. Key Responsibilities Own the long-term strategic direction of the company, including evaluating new product lines, service expansions, and market opportunities that sharpen competitive positioning Partner closely with the Head of Business Operations to optimize performance across seasonal revenue cycles, minimize exposure during slow months, and prevent capacity breakdowns at peak volume Lead and develop sales leadership across a team of six, building forecasting discipline and driving the shift from passive lead intake to active, intentional business development Oversee financial performance alongside the Head of Finance, with accountability for revenue growth, margin health, and long-term financial sustainability Stay connected to the industry: attend key events, cultivate relationships with venues, co-vendors, and clients, and ensure the company remains a visible and respected presence in the market Serve as the primary steward of the company’s brand, creative standards, and culture, ensuring what makes the work exceptional scales with the business Evaluate and approve significant investments and new capabilities in partnership with the Founder Build the organizational structure and leadership depth needed for the company to grow independently of the Founder’s day-to-day involvement Qualifications Deep experience in events, live production, or a closely adjacent industry — tented events, galas, high-end hospitality, venue management, or co-vendor backgrounds all relevant Strong technical foundation in event production; credible with production teams and clients on the floor as well as in the boardroom Strategic thinker with financial acumen — experienced in setting long-term direction, identifying growth opportunities, and managing business performance across revenue cycles Proven ability to develop leaders, hold teams accountable, and build organizational capacity Culturally aligned: this is a creative, engaged, and non-corporate environment; the right leader fits into that culture and strengthens it Bay Area-based, or a compelling candidate open to relocation
