About the Company

Our client is an established, independent brand and experience agency headquartered in New York City. With over three decades of expertise, they partner with complex, high-stakes organizations across financial services, higher education, professional services, and technology — helping them build and activate brands that move audiences to action. Their work spans brand strategy, digital platforms, and integrated experience design, delivered for clients who operate in industries where trust, clarity, and precision matter most.

About the Role

This senior leadership role sits at the intersection of creative and technical — serving as the connective layer between design, strategy, and engineering. The Technology Director will define and own the agency's technical point of view, contribute directly to new business development, and guide internal and external development teams across a portfolio of complex digital engagements. The mandate is both entrepreneurial and operational: bringing structure to ambiguity while elevating the quality and scalability of everything the agency delivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical strategy across all digital experiences, including websites, applications, and integrated tools
  • Shape technical sections of SOWs and RFPs — outlining architecture, dependencies, risks, and assumptions with clarity for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Define platform and architecture recommendations across CMS, frameworks, hosting, and DevOps based on client needs, scalability, and security requirements
  • Act as a thought partner to executive leadership on new business pitches, pricing strategy, and resourcing decisions
  • Oversee internal and external development teams, ensuring quality, velocity, and maintainability of code and architecture
  • Collaborate with strategy, creative, and production teams to align technology with user experience and brand vision
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies — particularly AI, automation, and evolving front-end frameworks — to inform platform decisions and drive internal innovation
  • Champion accessibility, security, and compliance best practices across all projects
  • Promote engineering best practices including modular development, code reviews, documentation, performance optimization, and Git workflows
  • Mentor and develop the technology team, shaping culture and raising the bar on craft

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in full-stack web development and technical leadership; 5+ years in an agency environment required
  • 3+ years in senior management (Director, VP, or Group Lead) with demonstrated experience guiding cross-functional teams
  • Strong command of component-based architectures, build systems, and front-end frameworks (Next.js, React, Node.js)
  • Experience with cloud hosting, APIs, DevOps practices, continuous integration, and version control (Git)
  • Familiarity with GraphQL, serverless architectures, and marketing automation tools
  • Working knowledge of QA, UAT, usability testing, and analytics platforms (GA4, GTM)
  • Proven ability to write technical SOWs, RFP responses, and project briefs for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Clear understanding of how content, data, and design systems work together at scale

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to AI/LLM-powered applications, retrieval pipelines, or vector database integrations
  • Background in creative technology, motion, or generative tools
  • Familiarity with Figma and design-to-dev handoff workflows (Storybook, etc.)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $225,000 – $300,000
  • New York, NY — Hybrid
  • Full benefits package; details available upon engagement
